Backing up your website is crucial, and the folks at World Backup Day are here to remind us of that today. Yes, March 31st is, apparently, World Backup Day, and as their slogan says: “Don’t be an April Fool.” Start a backup routine now!
There are two key parts to backing up your website:
- Make sure you’re backing up everything your site requires – files, images and other media, scripts, etc. And for those of you running your own content management systems, like WordPress, Joomla, etc., remember to also backup your databases.
- Make sure you’re backing up to more than one location. An external hard drive at home is one place for a backup, but you should have another, say, in the cloud, on a separate hosting account, or even on a hard drive stored at your friend’s house.
And the more you can automate the backup process, the better, ’cause we all know how bad we are at remembering things… Your website… remember? I was just talking about backing up your website… (ok, maybe not that bad).
