If you receive an email like the one below, it’s not a domain name renewal so delete it immediately and don’t click on anything. I’ve had clients asking about this and I’ve been flooded with them in fall 2015.
It does everything to make it look like an official domain name renewal notice – I’ve highlighted some of the wording in blue – but if you read it carefully, it’s a “search engine optimization service” and buried in the fine print they say they don’t do any domain registering. The scare tactic repeated throughout the email is that if you don’t act now people won’t be able to find you.
Other clues it’s not a legitimate domain name renewal form:
- It’s not from my domain name registrar
(can’t remember who yours is? use this WHOIS search to find out, and then write down the information, and have them send your username and password if you can’t remember them) - The date of expiry/renewal is wrong
(again, check WHOIS if you’re not sure of the date) - The price is crazy high for a domain
($64 per year – you should be paying around $13 – 16 per year these days; special offers aside)
(conversely, $64 is crazy crazy low for all the SEO services they list on their website)
And look at the heading on their website – still trying to imply that they register domains:
