Many writing coaches will tell you that recording yourself talking about your ideas is a great way to get your thoughts out of your head. The theory is, even if you’re not comfortable speaking in front of groups, you’ll probably be fine talking to yourself out loud. And who doesn’t already talk to themselves…
Well, the principle is even more valuable for writing articles for your website, because they feature short and timely topics; ones you’re likely talking about to friends, co-workers, or clients. Just repeat out loud what you said to them and record it on your smartphone (or your dictaphone if you’re an old-movie buff).
The ease of recording these days makes this an even more efficient tool because you can record anywhere, anytime (but not while holding your phone and driving at the same time… ).
Now, you’ll probably just use the recorded notes to create a coherent written piece. But if you happen to record the whole thing coherently, why not include the recording as an MP3, so visitors can listen to it. Here’s a version of this article that I recorded:
