Every November, during Black Friday sales, you’ll be inundated with ads for 70% or more off hosting for your website. Stay calm and don’t get caught up in the frenzy.
Bad hosting is bad, even if it’s really really cheap.
Sure, most hosting companies, good or bad, will move your existing site for free in order to get your business. And yes, the deals make hosting – which is already pretty inexpensive – seem almost free itself. But the real cost of bad hosting is the picking up of the pieces down the road, when persistent downtime, poor security, and overloading of servers (by putting all the Black Friday buyers on a single machine…), take their toll on your visitors, your sanity, and your pocketbook.
Here are my picks for reliable shared hosting:
- Siteground
- DreamHost
- Hostgator
(I know, you’ve heard things, but I’ve reliably hosted small sites with them for almost a decade) - Inmotion Hosting
There are others, of course, but I’m going solely by my experience here, with my sites and my clients’ sites. And the great thing is, these and other reliable hosts have Black Friday specials too, so you still get to save.
Now get out there with your virtual elbows, and start pushing and shoving…
